MONDO CUT: MAHONIES - “EAT ‘EM ALL”
Mahonies make Craig Brown’s other projects (Terrible Twos and Liquor Store) feel like formulated snoozefests. As blasphemous as that sounds, Eat ‘Em All lacks a single dud groove of disproof. All ten songs on this 7” (yes, ten songs) pierce your soul with varying degrees of early So-Cal SST stigmata, switching tempos and rabidness that page turn from The Meat Puppets to The Minutemen to Black Flag before you can blink an eye. With lyrics like “I Don’t Wanna Suck / At Life Like You” and “ZZ Top Have Really Big Beards / Except For The Drummer / His Last Name Is Beard,” you might as well consider Eat ‘Em All a Picasso of punk.
